I’m Sam Fattahi, a registered clinical counsellor and trauma therapist in Coquitlam with more than a decade of experience supporting adults through trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, difficult life experiences, anxiety, depression, grief and emotional overwhelm.
I am a registered clinical counsellor in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and my approach is compassionate, collaborative and trauma informed.
As a trauma therapist in Coquitlam, I work with people experiencing the effects of childhood trauma, complex trauma, relationship injuries, immigration stress, loss and other overwhelming experiences.
Trauma can affect the way we feel, think, relate to others and experience safety. Some clients come to therapy with flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, anxiety, self-doubt, people pleasing, or difficulty trusting others. I believe trauma therapy in Coquitlam should move at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
I do not believe clients should be pressured to disclose painful experiences before they feel ready. Instead, I work collaboratively to build safety, strengthen emotional regulation, understand patterns and process difficult experiences in a way that respects each person’s boundaries and goals. I also provide EMDR therapy in Coquitlam and virtually across British Columbia.
EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing can be used to support clients with trauma, PTSD and C-PTSD when it is clinically appropriate and aligned with their readiness.
I also understand that trauma does not happen in isolation. Family systems, immigration experiences, cultural expectations, gender roles, intergenerational patterns, relationships and social pressures can all influence how a person understands themselves and responds to difficult experiences.
As a trauma therapist in Coquitlam, I work with clients from diverse cultural and family backgrounds and aim to provide counselling that respects the full context of their lives. For some people, healing may involve understanding how family expectations shape their sense of responsibility or self-worth. For others, it may involve reprocessing experiences of migration, loss, relationship trauma, or feeling caught between different cultural identities and expectations.
My goal is to create space for these experiences without making assumptions about what they mean for each individual.
I earned my Masters of Science in Counselling Psychology in 2013, and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor in good standing with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
At the core of my work is the belief that meaningful change is possible. Trauma can affect how people see themselves relate to others and experience the world, but it does not have to define the rest of their lives.
Through trauma therapy in Coquitlam, I support clients in developing a greater sense of safety, self-understanding, emotional regulation, self-compassion and connection.
If you’re looking for a trauma therapist in Coquitlam, a PTSD therapist, a C-PTSD therapist, or an EMDR therapist in Coquitlam, my goal is to offer a therapeutic space where you can explore what you have experienced at your own pace with respect compassion and support.
